Kids Learn to Dinghy Sail at Aquasail Club Mandwa
As the year ended Aquasail concluded its first Learn to Dinghy Sail course. This course is run at the Aquasail Sailing Centre in Mandwa using our Laser Pico’s. The Laser Pico is the world’s most popular training boat for kids. It is ideal for kids who love to sail off the beach and enjoy being close to the water.
Taarika Mariwalla aged 14 comes from a family of passionate sailors and was keen to try it out herself! After 6 sessions she could confidently rig the boat, launch it and sail on all points of sail. She also practiced boat handling skills like picking up a mooring buoy and coming alongside a pontoon. Having now caught the sailing fever she hopes to try her hand at the Hobie and more! |

Republic Day Splash: A fantastic holiday when family and friends Aquasailed together
This republic day Aquasail celebrated at the Aquasail Beach Centre in Mandwa, Alibaug with a fun splash program for all the family. Everyone was in a holiday mood and arrived at Gateway of India in the morning ready to enjoy the day.

The new Hobie Odyssey kayaks and Starboard Start Windsurf boards were a big hit as anticipated. One and all enjoyed the independence of being able to kayak in the easy to handle Odyssey’s without an instructor. The adventurous, enjoyed the thrill of taking the first steps towards learning to windsurf and loved getting wet in the process!
Old favourites such as the Hobie 15 Catamaran and the Beneteau 7.5 Keelboat’s were still popular. Despite the new watersports on offer we could see that Aquasailor’s will always love sailing!
This day really did provide something for everyone. A full day of activity for the energetic and a beautiful, calming base for those wanting to relax with their friends and family, admire the scenery and enjoy great food. We were so impressed by the 2 Hobie Odyssey kayaks we have had since last season that we bought four further Hobie Odyssey’s and one single person kayak for an instructor to use. These kayaks are great for family use as they have space for two adults and a child to enjoy kayaking together.
We have already made good use of our new equipment on our 11th Jan teambuilding program with the sales team for Novartis. They loved racing in the Kayaks and balancing on the windsurf boards. We look forward to using the windsurf equipment for our Learn to Windsurf programme taking place at Mandwa on the weekend of 23rd and 24th January.

Team Building programs prove a huge success
Aquasail Sailience programmes have been very popular at the end of 2009 and beginning of 2010. We have conducted programs for corporate including Novartis, Colgate, Taj Wellington Mews, Reliance, Genesys, ICICI Group Global Private Clients.
Each of these programs had a very different focus so we varied the activities to fulfil each HR objective. |
|
We were able to successfully coordinate this wide range of events because sailing has such strong parallels with the corporate world. In sailing, many key skills for success are the same as those which are important for corporate success. Strong leadership, communication, teamwork, risk taking, goal orientation and forward planning are all qualities which are shared by sailing and the corporate world.
Everyone who joined us for a corporate program was amazed by how much they were able to learn about sailing in such a short time and how they could relate their learning’s to their everyday life in the workplace. |

An Aquasail Children's Day : Creating Memories To Remember
Aquasail and Concern India celebrated children’s day in a special way. Thanks to the generosity of many Aquasailers who have always been there for good causes, 43 construction workers children aged 6 to 12 sailed at the Aquasail Sailing Center, Mandwa. They welcomed the New Year with happy memories and new confidence.
Many had never been on the sea before ‘ Didi, yeh darya kahan khatam hota hai?’ one asked. We at Aquasail were impressed with the agility and ease with which the kids took to sailing. They were excited by all the new experiences and wanted to try everything to do with sailing. Within minutes, they were confidently steering and controlling the sail. |
|
Even when they weren’t sailing, the children wanted to be in the water. At the end of the day we took home tired but very happy children.Thank you Concern India and Gaver for the wonderful support. We thank all of you who sponsored a child and gave the kids a chance to have a truly once in a lifetime experience. Concern India thanks every one for the funds that will go towards the education of street children
International community sails at Aquasail club Mandwa
Aquasail was privileged to be part of the ISCA muster 2009 hosted by the Mumbai Sea Cadet Corps. Representatives from 14 countries gathered in Mumbai.
Aquasail themed our event ‘Knotting Together’ to reflect the connections made between people and nations. Many of the Aquasail team including Shakeel and lots of volunteers spent their key sailing years at the sea cadet corps. |
|
Aquasail gave the cadets a chance to experience a more relaxed, fun side of sailing. They loved the warm water, taking every chance to get wet with many capsize drills!
Off the water was also a lot of fun with a guitarist and fun quizzes. We celebrated the mix of nationalities by asking the cadets to form the most diverse group possible. The delegates enjoyed exchanging ideas in an informal setting.
Aquasail thanks ISCA, particularly Commodore Ahuja for inviting us to be part of a wonderful day which meant a great deal to Aquasail.
Teamwork on the water, teamwork off the water!
Our ‘SEE Power’ corporate event with Genesys was a great success. Our challenge was to improve teamwork and make sailing enjoyable. Within two hours the four teams had not only learnt to sail but were racing and showing their competitive streak.
This success on the water shows that our Beneteau 7.5’s are perfect for a first sail. It is a credit to our Skippers that in a short time they are able to teach so much. |
|
To meet our HR objective, the Aquasail team introduced a surprise change before each race. To succeed on the racecourse the team had to adjust to the change while maintaining a high level of teamwork.
The debrief proved just how successful this Sailience event was. Even the most nervous sailor was excited about their achievement! Shakeel drew many inspirational parallels between his international sailing experience and life in the corporate world. The Genesys team took away valuable lessons about how a team must work together to succeed in reaching their common goal.
